    Robots, automated production lines and supercomputers along with steel, heavy drop hammers, dies and glowing tool blanks. Progress and traditional forging methods go hand in hand at the GEDORE tool factory. The traditional manufacturing company, which is based in Remscheid in Germany, has been producing tools at the Lüttringhausen site since 1919 using old forging methods, bundling 100 years of forging competence. The history of the GEDORE family company is the story of a corporate success that is based on uncompromising quality and consistent proximity to the customer. From the founding of a small forge and the development of trail-blazing tools, the expansion abroad and the acquisitions of specialist tool manufacturers to one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium tools.

Expansion abroad

          In the 1960s, GEDORE grew dynamically. In order to keep up with the increasing demand, Otto Dowidat decides to adopt a strategy that is almost revolutionary for its time and the industry and expands abroad. New production locations are established in Brazil, England, Austria and South Africa. During this time, GEDORE also pushes ahead with the development of innovations such as the DREMOMETER aluminium torque spanner. This competence is further expanded with the first electronic torque spanner in 1980.

In family hands for generations

          Today, the company is a globally active group of companies with more than 2,300 employees in over 70 countries. Despite this enormous growth, the tool manufacturer is still in family hands: Karen Dowidat, granddaughter of the company founder Otto Dowidat, has been the managing partner since 2000. With her son Christian Dowidat, who was appointed to the Management Board of GEDORE Holding GmbH by shareholders’ resolution with effect from 12.02.2019, the Dowidat family is consistently pursuing the path of generational change. Dr. Christian Dowidat has now been with the company for five years and is gradually preparing to take over overall responsibility.

One strong brand – two lines

          In order to provide each customer with a suitable and individual solution to his problem, GEDORE combines the expertise of the entire Group. GEDORE has been present on the market since April 2018 with two brands, the GEDORE brand and the OCHSENKOPF brand. The GEDORE brand is divided into two lines: GEDORE and GEDORE red.
